Two more little ducklings joined the brood overnight and into the early hours of this morning, bringing out total Muscovy hatch count to five!

There remains only two eggs that are yet to hatch! And their livestream is now live:

Why are the ducklings still in the hatching pod?

Ducklings are kept in the incubator for about 24 hours after they have hatched to allow them to dry off, stay warm and fluff up. Some may also need the additional time to absorb the last bits of their yolk.

Keeping the humidity high inside the incubator also benefits the unhatched eggs and prevents a condition called “shrink wrapping”, where shell membrane dries out and becomes tough, trapping the hatchling in their shell.

Don’t they get thirsty or hungry?

Ducklings come out of the shell with the nutrients they need to survive for about 48 hours! In the wild, the mama duck waits till everyone is hatched before taking them out of the nest to get their first food.

Who is asking these questions?

Literally nobody, somebody’s had her coffee and just keyboard mashing. Happy Easter everybody! ❤️ 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣 ❤️
